OPPO Find X9 Ultra: My Hands-On Review | Camera, Battery, 100W Charging, Data Transfer Speed

From iPhone to a Galaxy S25 Ultra, and now to what I actually use every day: an OPPO Find X9 Ultra. Choosing by spec instead of brand image turned up things I'd never have noticed otherwise — here's my honest review.

In short: camera, battery life, processing benchmarks, and screen brightness all beat my Galaxy, by a noticeable margin.

Why did I pick the OPPO Find X9 Ultra?

Up to this point I'd only really looked at Galaxy or iPhone, purely on brand image. Digging into the actual spec sheet is what got me curious about the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, and I decided to buy one. What surprised me most wasn't just the camera — battery life, processing benchmarks, and screen brightness all came out ahead of my Galaxy too.

Just how good is the camera?

The camera was the deciding factor. It has a 10x optical, 50MP telephoto camera — not just an extension of the optical zoom you'd have seen back on something like a Galaxy S23, but a real step up in resolving detail at long range. Combined with the color tuning from its Hasselblad partnership, taking photos with it is genuinely enjoyable.

Battery, performance, and display

Outside of the camera, the core specs also came out ahead of my Galaxy in side-by-side comparisons: battery endurance, processing benchmark scores, and screen brightness outdoors — all differences you notice in daily use.

CategoryWhat I noticed
Camera10x optical, 50MP telephoto. Hasselblad color tuning
BatteryStrong endurance, and 100W fast charging tops it up almost instantly
PerformanceHigher benchmark scores than Galaxy
DisplayBright enough to read comfortably outdoors

How fast is the 100W charging?

The OPPO Find X9 Ultra supports 100W charging, and a matching adapter ships in the box. Even with genuinely good battery endurance, it recovers to nearly full in a short amount of time — faster than I expected. I worry about running out of battery a lot less now. I also applied a screen protector myself at purchase, and between that and the charging speed, the whole ownership experience has been a good one.

How painless was moving data from my old phone?

Switching data over from iOS or Galaxy sounds like it should be a hassle, but modern Android has genuinely simplified the process, and transfer speeds have improved a lot too. Using a compatible USB cable, I moved around 90GB of data in about 10 minutes.

When I bought mine, paying in full or going through a SoftBank online installment plan were the main ways to get one in Japan. It's now also sold directly through Amazon, which lowers the barrier to picking one up considerably.

In summary

Back when I only looked at Galaxy or iPhone based on brand image, I never would have noticed the OPPO Find X9 Ultra existed. Choosing a phone based on the OS and UI matters, but the biggest factor, in my hands-on experience, is the hardware spec itself.
